Cosmic prep

Due to the demands of writing and publishing, Doug only works with a limited number of private tutoring students for the SAT at any given time. All tutoring sessions are conducted on Zoom and are personalized to the students’ goals, abilities, and needs. Most students choose to meet for an hour a week or every other week for 10 to 20 sessions. 

As part of one-on-one tutoring, services include:

• Diagnostic assessment to get baseline and regular practice tests to monitor  growth.
• Notes emailed after most sessions recapping concepts covered in sessions and mistakes on practice tests.
• Personalized homework assignments to drill areas of weakness.
• Regular text and email support between tutoring sessions.

Most students will regularly work through portions of authentic exams for homework, which are the best sources of practice questions. We will use the practice test results to gauge which specific concepts need to be targeted during lessons. For example, if a student gets a certain math question wrong on a practice test, Doug may give them notes and similar questions on that concept.

Supplemental assignments in our textbooks or personalized worksheets may be assigned if a student needs more reinforcement of specific topics. For example, if a student continues to miss a specific question type on practice exams, such as percent change questions, Doug may assign work in the chapter in one of our books that corresponds to that question type or provide worksheets on the specific concept. Students who progress more quickly and learn from their mistakes easily may primarily need to work through practice tests to refine their skills. Students who lack fundamentals may need more extensive lessons on the basics and spend less time on practice tests.
