Doug Kovel, Ed.M.
Founder

Doug Kovel is the founder of Cosmic Prep and author of Cosmic Prep Digital SAT Grammar Guide, Cosmic Prep Digital SAT Math Guide, and Cosmic Prep Digital SAT Reading Guide. Doug received a master’s in education from the Mind, Brain, and Education program at Harvard Graduate School of Education, earning a 4.0 GPA. There, he studied cognitive neuroscience and the application of cognitive science to learning and teaching in order to refine his tutoring practices. Previously, Doug earned a 99th percentile score on the SAT, was the valedictorian of his high school class, and graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Georgetown University.

Doug has been tutoring for the SAT and ACT since 2009, both privately and for reputable test prep companies. While teaching SAT prep courses, he found that a “one size fits all” model did not work for the majority of his students. Doug was compelled to create supplemental materials including notes, drills, and quizzes designed to fill in the gaps that rendered the existing test prep materials inadequate.

When the College Board announced its plans to revamp the SAT in 2016, Doug decided to write books that would give his students an opportunity to learn, practice, and master each skill. His books can be used by students studying independently or by tutors and teachers as part of their comprehensive test prep courses or customized tutoring programs.
