Our Story
Cosmic Prep was founded by siblings Erin and Doug Kovel after seeing firsthand the limitations of traditional test prep. While tutoring for a leading company, Doug noticed a clear pattern. Most programs were built for the middle, leaving some students without the foundation they needed and others without the challenge to reach their full potential.
He began developing his own lessons focused on reasoning, patterns, and problem solving rather than test-taking shortcuts. Over time, those lessons grew into a full curriculum shaped by years of tutoring and continued study in how students learn.
At the same time, Erin’s experiences traveling and working abroad reinforced a broader perspective. Opportunity, not ability, often determines outcomes. Many students have the drive and potential to succeed but lack access to the right resources.
Cosmic Prep was built on a shared belief that high quality education should not be a luxury. It should be accessible, rigorous, and designed to support students at every level while giving educators tools that truly make an impact.
Because accessibility is not just about cost. It is about expanding opportunity, building confidence, and helping students believe they belong in the rooms they are working toward.
Our Author
Cosmic Prep has been supporting students in SAT preparation since 2009. Our co-founder and author, Doug Kovel, began by working closely with students one-on-one, creating his own materials to address the gaps he saw in traditional test prep.
Doug scored in the 99th percentile on the SAT, graduated summa cum laude from Georgetown, and earned a 4.0 in Harvard’s Mind, Brain, and Education program. His approach is grounded in both that academic background and years of hands-on experience working directly with students.
Those materials have since evolved into a structured system of clear lessons, targeted practice, and custom quizzes designed to build real understanding.
